Our instructors our members of our community that desire to share these vital skills with not only young people, put their peers as well.
WHAT WE DO
KOS offers camps with diverse educational content for children ages 5-11 during scheduled Cobb County school closures. Regardless of the curriculum, we discuss ideas that are generally accepted to promote a good life; being honest, kind, responsible, accountable, and motivated. This allows for people to act with a sense of autonomy, and fosters creativity and critical thinking.
Additionally, we offer monthly and quarterly classes for adults and teens during the school year. Subjects range from carpentry, stand-up comedy workshops, sewing classes, yoga classes, and more. We meet people with skills who share our mission to build confidence through knowledge, our offerings continue to expand.
WHO WE SERVE
We serve the people in Cobb County, Georgia, primarily in the city of Smyrna. Currently, we focus on children and youth 5-11 years old, offering programs during county school breaks with enriching day-long workshops. Our goal is to one day offer a scholarships to our program.
WHY IT MATTERS
At KOS Inc., we understand the importance of providing a safe and enriching environment for children during out-of-school time (OST). In Cobb County, 26.6% of children come from single-parent homes, and 11.7% live in poverty. Many families struggle to afford childcare, especially during summer breaks. In Smyrna, GA, the after-school program does not operate on off-school days or during school breaks, leaving a gap in support for working families.
Public schools often do not foster autonomy in learning, which is why KOS Inc. focuses on addressing key educational areas of enrichment. Our programs emphasize STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), home economics, and developing autonomy through social-emotional learning. By enhancing these crucial areas, we aim to improve the lives of children and youth, preparing them to navigate the challenges and changes they will face throughout life.
